Kenneth Macmillan

Remembered for his exquisite choreography for such ballets as Solitaire, The Rite of Spring, La Création du Monde, and Romeo and Juliet, this Scottish-born dancer and choreographer served as artistic director of both the Deutsche Oper Berlin and the Royal Ballet (London).
After training at the their Sadler's Wells Ballet School, he choreographed such early works as Laiderette and Somnambulism.
He earned a 1994 Tony Award for choreographing the Broadway revival of the Rodgers & Hammerstein musical Carousel.
His marriage to visual artist Deborah Williams resulted in a daughter named Charlotte.
In 1970, he took over the position of Artistic Director of the Royal Ballet from the company's previous director, Frederick Ashton.
