Remembered best for his roles in such 1940s and 1950s Three Stooges comedy films as Punchy Cowpunchers, Monkey Businessmen, and Hold That Lion!, this popular actor also had recurring roles on the television shows The Range Rider, Perry Mason, and The Lone Ranger.
Before becoming a film and television actor, he worked in the theatre. One of his earliest screen credits was in the 1943 film The Phantom.
In numerous Columbia short films of the 1950s, he played characters who were hit in the face with pies and other comedic weapons.
A native of Portland, Indiana, he later settled in Los Angeles, California. He suffered a fatal heart attack in his early seventies.
He played the father of Jerry Lewis' character in the 1961 film The Ladies' Man.
