She was a singer at the Oklahoma Opry when she was nine years old and later studied at the University of Oklahoma where she performed in many musicals.
She won the Top Female Vocalist Award from the Academy of Country Music in 2003.
She married songwriter Geoff Koch and the couple has a son, Jackson, who was born in 2005 and a daughter, Maggie, who was born in 2008.
Her vocals have been compared to those of Sara Evans.
