She made her musical debut with the band Dead Ringer in 1993. She went on to release solo work with more commercial success.
She was named Songwriter of the Year at the ARIA Awards in 2002.
She married singer Shane Nicholson in 2005; the couple had two children named Poet and Arlo. Chambers has a son named Talon from a previous relationship. They divorced in 2013.
She covered Cyndi Lauper's single "True Colors" in 2003.
