During his childhood years, he studied at Cairo's Institute of Arabic Music.
He made his acting debut in the 1946 movie The Beauty Queens.
He grew up in Damanhur, Egypt and spent his childhood singing with his older brother Mohammed.
He was born in the same country as fellow actor Omar Sharif.
