Lightweight MMA fighter who has risen to fame for his time competing in the UFC. In October 2020, he finished ranked as the UFC's #1 lightweight and 10th pound for pound fighter.
He began wrestling at age 4. He competed as a wrestler for the University of Northern Colorado, where he was a Division I All-American as a junior.
He defeated Tony Ferguson at UFC 249 to win the UFC lightweight championship belt. He also won that event's Performance of the Night and Fight of the Night awards.
He has a twin brother and two sisters. His parents' names are Carolina and John Ray.
He was defeated by Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 254 by a triangle choke.
