British actress who first played Dot Cotton on the BBC soap opera EastEnders in 1985.
She trained at the Old Vic Drama School.
In 2005, she was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the UK Soap Awards.
She was married to John Garley from 1950 to 1957 and Robert Arnold from 1958 to 2003. She and Arnold raised four daughters, Sophie, Lousie, Naomi, and Chloe, and a son, William.
She appeared on EastEnders, which was created by Julia Smith.
