Julie Orringer
Novelist
An American author, she is known for works such as How to Breathe Underwater (a short story collection published in 2003) and The Invisible Bridge (a 2010 novel). She also published short stories in Ploughshares, the Paris Review, and other notable literary journals.
She studied at Cornell University and the Iowa Writers’ Workshop and later attended Stanford University on a Stegner Fellowship.
She received the Paris Review's Discovery Prize, as well as two Pushcart Prizes.
She was born and raised in Miami, Florida. She later married writer Ryan Harty.
She and Gail Godwin both studied at the Iowa Writers' Workshop.
