Joy Davidman
Novelist
The wife of writer C.S. Lewis, she was an accomplished author in her own right. Her works include Smoke on the Mountain: An Interpretation of the Ten Commandments in Terms of Today (1954) and Weeping Bay (1950).
A child prodigy, she graduated from high school at age fourteen. She subsequently attended Hunter College and Columbia University.
After her death, C.S. Lewis wrote about her in his memoir, A Grief Observed, which he published under a pseudonym.
She and her second husband, C.S. Lewis, contributed to each other's literary work. She had previously been married to William Lindsay Gresham, another notable author.
Debra Winger portrayed Davidman in Shadowlands, a film based on Davidman's life with C.S. Lewis.
