Nicknamed Hot Josh, he made a name for himself on the CMT reality competition series Redneck Island. He was a runner-up on the show's fourth season in 2014 and would reprise his appearance on the show's fifth season.
He was working as an oil field driller when he appeared on Redneck Island. A fierce athlete, he enjoyed sports and grew up hunting and fishing throughout his youth.
In 2017, he made his acting debut in the telemovie Mississippi River Sharks.
He previously dated his Redneck Island costar Margaret Wood both on and off the show.
On the fourth and fifth season of Redneck Island, he competed against Riley Green.
