Most well known for his portrayal of Juror Number 9 in the 1957 film 12 Angry Men, he is also remembered for his work in the television shows Studio One in Hollywood, The United States Steel Hour and Playhouse 90.

Before Fame

Early in his acting career, he performed on Broadway in The Whirlwind (1919-1920); Near Santa Barbara (1921); Smooth as Silk (1921); and Bewitched (1924).

Trivia

Also a stage performer, he is particularly notable for his portrayal of Giles Corey in the original Broadway production of Arthur Miller's their play The Crucible.

Born and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, he later lived and worked in New York, New York.
