One of the first jockeys to wear advertising patches in the Kentucky Derby.
He moved to the United States in 1984.
He was honored by the U.S. National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame.
His father and three of his seven brothers were also horse jockeys.
He and Willie Shoemaker were both greatly successful horse jockeys.
