MMA fighter known for being the UFC's first Featherweight Champion on September 30, 2010. He defended his title seven consecutive times before losing to Conor McGregor in December 2015, ending a decade-long undefeated streak.
He grew up playing soccer, but was often beaten up as a child. This inspired him to learn how to fight. He made his MMA debut in 2004.
He was named the 2009 Fighter of the Year by Sherdog. His 2014 fight with Cad Mendes, which he won by unanimous decision, was named Fight of the Year by multiple organizations.
He married fellow fighter Vivianne Aldo in 2009. He has a daughter named Joanna.
After losing to McGregor, he bounced back to beat Frankie Edgar to win the Interim Featherweight Championship.
