Midfilder who led the Calcio Catania football club to record points in Serie A, and played on the Uruguayan national team from 2004 to 2013.
He spent six years with his hometown's Montevideo Wanderers F.C. and debuted professionally for the team in 2000.
In 2010 he was sent to Juventus for €12 million in transfer fees, and signed a 4-year contract.
He grew up in Montevideo, Uruguay.
He played alongside Diego Lugano on Uruguay's national team from 2004 to 2013.
