Performed with the Irish New Wave band, The Boomtown Rats. He played everything from pop to jazz to rock.
He and the other members of The Boomtown Rats all met each other in the group The Nightlife Thugs, changing their name after Garry Roberts, lead guitarist, threatened to leave if they didn't.
He went to live in Japan after the Rats split, performing and writing music for stars like UA.
His cousin Pete Birquette played with him in The Boomtown Rats. His family was artistic in many ways, featuring numerous actors, artists, and musicians.
He collaborated with Bob Geldof, the lead vocalist for The Boomtown Rats.
