This their snooker player won the United Kingdom Championship in 1979; the Bombay International Championship in 1980; and the Pontins Professional and Professional Snooker League championships in 1980 and 1984, respectively.
He began his professional snooker career at the age of thirty and soon earned the nickname of "Mr. Perfection."
He had a second career as a television personality, hosting the BBC's snooker coverage and co-presenting a snooker game show called Big Break.
His first marriage resulted in a son named Gary, and his second marriage produced a daughter named Brook. He and his second wife, Avril, divorced in the early 1990s; he later married Rosie Ries.
He published a 2011 book about fellow snooker player Alex Higgins.
