John Urschel
Football Player
Retired football player and mathematician. He was drafted by the Baltimore Ravens in the fifth round of the 2014 NFL Draft. He played his entire NFL career with Baltimore before retiring in 2017. He has published peer-reviewed articles in mathematics.
He played college football at Penn State University. He has a bachelor's and master's degrees in mathematics.
In 2019, he released his autobiography titled Mind and Matter: A Life in Math and Football.
He and his wife, writer Louisa Thomas, have one daughter. His parents, John Urschel and Venita Parker, were a surgeon and attorney.
He pursued academia and football, similarly to former NFL player and Rhodes scholar Myron Rolle.
