John A. Macdonald

Canadian lawyer and politician who became the 1st Prime Minister of Canada in 1867. He notably led the conferences and the drafting of the British North America Act, which made Canada an official nation on 1 July 1867. He is credited with creating the Canadian Federation.
At age 15, he traveled to Toronto to gain a law degree to support his family.
He is responsible for securing most of the territories Canada controls presently.
He married his first cousin, Isabella Clark in September 1843.
He was in office while Abraham Lincoln was president of the U.S..
