This songwriter and music producer penned more than 100 songs, working with such artists as Rosanne Cash, Michelle Branch, Loudon Wainwright, Willie Nelson, and Emmylou Harris. He earned a 1998 Grammy Award for the writing and production of the Shawn Colvin hit 'Sunny Came Home.'
He rose to fame after producing Shawn Colvin's acclaimed 1989 LP, Steady On.
He produced David Crosby's third solo recording, Thousand Roads.
He married singer Rosanne Cash (the daughter of Johnny Cash); they raised their children primarily in New York City.
He produced Marc Cohn's 1993 album The Rainy Season.
