Vietnam War veteran and the 2004 Democratic nominee for President who served Massachusetts as it's senator for nearly twenty years. He became the 68th US Secretary of State in 2013 and served until 2017.
He briefly dated First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy's half sister, Janet Jennings Auchincloss.
He is the ninth cousin twice removed of George W. Bush, his 2004 opponent. Both of their families are descendants of Edmund Reade.
His brother Cameron Kerry became the general counsel of the Commerce Department. He has two daughters named Alexandra and Vanessa. He was married to Julia Thorne from 1970 to 1988 and in 1995, he married Teresa Heinz.
He lost his presidential campaign to George W. Bush, thus allowing Bush to serve a second term.
