John L. Hines
War Hero
U.S. Army officer who fought in the Spanish-American War, the Philippine-American War, and World War I.
He graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1891 and was commissioned as a second lieutenant.
He took part in an expedition into Mexico to root out the paramilitary forces of General Pancho Villa.
His son, Col. John L. Hines, Jr., fought in World War II with the 6th Armored Division and received the Distinguished Service Cross.
He served as Chief of Staff of the U.S. Army (1924-1926), as did General Jimmy D. Ross.
