A nineteenth-century English author, he is known for his miscellaneous writings, essays, and contributions to the London Literary Chronicle. He wrote cleverly-titled works such as Knights and Their Days and Table Traits with Something on Them.

Before Fame

He wrote a play called Justice, or the Venetian Jew, when he was just seventeen years old. He later graduated from the University of Marburg and subsequently secured a position as editor of the Church and State Gazette.

Family Life

He married Emma, the daughter of a captain, in 1834. Together, they had a son named Alban and a daughter named Florence.
