John Doran
Essayist
A nineteenth-century English author, he is known for his miscellaneous writings, essays, and contributions to the London Literary Chronicle. He wrote cleverly-titled works such as Knights and Their Days and Table Traits with Something on Them.
He wrote a play called Justice, or the Venetian Jew, when he was just seventeen years old. He later graduated from the University of Marburg and subsequently secured a position as editor of the Church and State Gazette.
He wrote many articles and essays on etiquette and on the current events of his era.
He married Emma, the daughter of a captain, in 1834. Together, they had a son named Alban and a daughter named Florence.
He and Hannah More were both colleagues of author Elizabeth Montagu.
