Known for his early candidacy for the 2008 United States Presidential campaign's Republican nomination, this Illinois politician withdrew from the race in late 2007. Also an attorney and accountant, he headed Chicago-based tax law and financial counseling firms.
After graduating from the University of Illinois-Chicago with a degree in political science and accounting, he entered the Illinois Institute of Technology's Chicago-Kent College of Law.
He ran unsuccessful campaigns for both the Illinois Congress and the Illinois State Senate.
He and his wife Sarah raised their four daughters in the Roman Catholic faith.
He ended his bid for the 2008 Republican presidential nomination in eleventh place (according to the 2007 Ames Straw Poll), finishing well behind the eventual nominee, John McCain.
