He worked at radio station 2UW from 1965 to 1970.
He was nicknamed Burgo and Baby John over the years, and became a cast member of the show Balls of Steel Australia.
He married Gianna Burgess in 1989, and the couple renewed their vows in 2011.
Pat Sajak has hosted the American version of Wheel of Fortune.
