Joe Kubert
Comic Book Artist
Legendary comic book artist and founder of The Kubert School whose work included "Sgt. Rock," "Hawkman," "Tor," and "Tales of the Green Beret." His 2003 graphic novel, "Yossel: April 19, 1943," garnered great acclaim.
He attended Manhattan's High School of Music and Art with future collaborator Norman Maurer. They often cut class to pitch their work to various publishers.
He was inducted into the Jack Kirby Hall of Fame in 1997 by the Harvey Awards and the Will Eisner Comic Book Hall of Fame in 1998.
He was born into a Jewish family who arrived in Brooklyn when he was only two months old. He had five children with his wife Muriel Lee.
He admired the work of Stan Lee.
