International sports pioneer who founded the martial art of judo and was the first Asian member of the International Olympic Committee.
He was taught by a family friend some jujutsu techniques, showing him the power of leverage and the illusion of size.
He officially represented Japan in the Olympics from 1912 to 1936.
He fathered two children, Risei Kano and Noriko, with his wife, Sumako Takezoe.
