He won the 1982 World Junior Team Time Trial Championship.
In 2013 he appeared on a list of 1998 Tour de France riders who were accused of doping.
He was born in Gera, Germany.
He won a stage at the 1998 Tour de France. The event was eventually won by Marco Pantani.
