She graduated magna cum laude from Harvard University with a degree in Visual Arts and Philosophy.
She worked as a cinematographer for a number of documentaries, including Born Rich and Only the Strong Survive.
She was born in D.C., but her parents moved the family to Kuwait then Cairo when she was young.
She became a prominent documentarian in the same era as Michael Moore.
