Famous for his more than two-decade-long portrayal of Fletcher Reade on the CBS soap opera Guiding Light, he is also notable for his role as Max Decker on the NBC soap Texas, as well as for his recurring role as Allan Willis on The Jeffersons.
He launched his television career in the late 1960s and early 1970s, appearing in single episodes of One Life to Live, Kojak, and Ozzie's Girls.
On the off-Broadway stage, he performed in productions of Serenading Louie and Passing Through From Exotic Places.
Before ending in divorce, his marriage to soap opera writer Pam Long produced two children.
He and Robert Newman were both longtime Guiding Light cast members.
