Rugby lock for the Hurricanes from 2006 to 2013.
He debuted in provincial play for Manawatu in 2002.
He won the International Rugby Players' Association's International Newcomer of the Year award.
His family owned a dairy farm, on which he was raised.
He and Ben Franks both played for the Hurricanes and the All Blacks.
