Musician who learned everything by ear when he was a child. His work crossed many mediums, including theatre, film, and television. His commissioned works included "A Midsummer Night's Ice Dream" from 1992, "Tangled Ice Webs" from 1998, and "Poetry in Motion" from 2006.
He began playing in blues and pop bands when he was in high school.
He served as music director, pianist, song composer, and musical improviser for The Second City, as well as other theatrical comedy troupes.
He married piano teacher Ina Dykstra in 2011.
He found out in 2004 that he shared a great-great-grandfather with legendary folk singer Arlo Guthrie.
