Triathlete who won a gold medal at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing.
He began swimming when he was 15, and he started competing in triathlons when he was 18.
He finished fourth in the World Championship Triathlon Series in back to back years, in 2009 and 2010.
He was born in Cologne, Germany.
At the 2012 Olympics he competed against Mario Mola.
