American race car driver and 2-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series winner. He was also a competitor in the ARCA Racing Series.
His racing career began in the 1950s while working as a mechanic.
He was named 1966 NASCAR Grand National Rookie of the Year.
He was 1 of 13 children in his family, raised in Roanoke, Virginia. He and his son tragically died in a car wreck in 2018.
He competed in the 2011 Royal Purple 200, which was won by Kyle Busch.
