Computer scientist and entrepreneur who founded Silicon Graphics, Inc. and Netscape Communications in Silicon Valley.
After being suspended from high school, he dropped out and joined the U.S. Navy. In 1974, he received his Ph.D in computer science from the University of Utah.
His work in computer graphics enabled systems to render 3-D computer images.
He had three children across four marriages.
