At the age of nineteen, this successful entrepreneur founded the Seattle-based American Messenger Company, which would later be renamed the United Parcel Service.
He and his friend Claude Ryan founded the American Messenger Company in 1907 with the aid of a one hundred-dollar loan from another friend.
A notable philanthropist as well as a businessman, he established both the Annie E. Casey Foundation and Casey Family Programs.
A native of Pick Handle Gulch, Nevada, he later settled in Seattle, Washington. After their father's death, he and his siblings Harry, George, and Marguerite were raised by their mother, Annie Casey.
He and postage stamp inventor Rowland Hill were both key figures in the history of mail in America.
