Remembered best for playing Private Joe Walker in the 1960s and '70s BBC comedy series Dad's Army, this British screen actor also starred as Bert Jones on the sitcom Romany Jones.
After studying art and briefly serving in the British military, he made his on-screen debut in a 1962 episode of Dr. Finlay's Casebook.
He had guest spots on such television series as A Family at War, Coronation Street, and The Troubleshooters.
His marriage to Kay Beck lasted until his sudden death at age forty-four from alcoholism-related pancreatitis.
He and Arthur Lowe were both in the cast of Dad's Army.
