Jazz bassist who created intricate solos and singing melodies in his works. He worked with artists like Joni Mitchell and was a member of Weather Report.
He started out playing drums, but a wrist injury playing football at the age of thirteen that required surgery left him unable to play.
He was inducted into the Down Beat Jazz Hall of Fame.
He was the first of three children born to John Francis Pastorius II.
Charles Mingus was another bass guitarist who was inducted into the Down Beat Jazz Hall of Fame.
