He started taking guitar lessons when he was a child and became dedicated to the instrument while in his teens.
He was once awarded a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts for his work with the guitar.
He was born and raised in Brooklyn.
He has taught classes at New School University, where songwriter Mike Doughty once studied.
