He had little interest in sports until high school, when he joined the football team and quickly earned All-American honors.
In his 10 seasons in the NFL he was a three-time Pro Bowl selection and won the Super Bowl in 1977.
He was married to Denise Tatum. He grew up in Passaic, New Jersey.
He was also the defender on one of the NFL's most their plays - the Immaculate Reception - aiding in the interception of Terry Bradshaw's pass.
