Jazz fusion drummer who has worked with Miles Davis and who had a solo career as a bandleader.
He started playing piano when he was four years old, which led him to discover the drums. One of his first big gigs was in the early 1960s.
He was nominated for a Grammy Award in 2008.
His uncle Roy inspired him to pursue a career in music.
He has performed with John Coltrane.
