Instrumental in expanding salsa band Guayacán Orquesta's fanbase into the U.S. and European Latino markets.
He became Musical Director for Roberto Roena in 1986.
He produced Cuban violinist Alfredo De La Fe's successful album Con Toda la Salsa. His Latin jazz composition Hacha y Machete from that album hit the European jazz top-10 lists.
He later moved to New York to be closer to his family.
He and fellow Puerto Rican Ricky Martin were contemporaries.
