Isidor Seiss
Composer
Beloved educator and pianist who influenced many future musicians over the course of his lengthy teaching career. Edvard Grieg, Josef Rheinberger, and August Winding all dedicated works to him.
He studied with such notables as Friedrich Wieck, Julius Otto, and Moritz Hauptmann.
He accepted a teaching position at the Cologne Conservatory in 1871 and became conductor of the Cologne Musical Society.
His worsening eyesight ended his teaching career, and he lived through the deaths of every family member. All of this motivated him to take his own life in 1905.
He had many their students, one of whom was the legendary singer Engelbert Humperdinck.
