After earning a degree in English from Trinity College, Cambridge, she interned for a BBC talk program and was subsequently hired by BBC Scotland.
She briefly hosted ITV Morning News.
The daughter of Sierra Leone People's Party politician, Muslim, and feminist Kadi Sesay, she spent her youth in both France and Sierra Leone and later settled in England. In 2013, she married fellow CNN employee Leif Coorlim.
During her time as the host of Sky Sports News' Good Morning Sports Fans program, she interviewed retired boxer Michael Watson.
