He worked for radio before moving to television.
He was the only writer to get sole credit on a Marx brothers film, and also wrote Bye Bye Birdie.
He married twice and was widowed once.
He got an Oscar nomination for writing Meet Me in St. Louis, which starred Judy Garland.
