Imran Siddiqi
Biologist
Notable for his work with India's Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology, this prominent botanist studied plant genetics with an eye to improving agricultural practices in developing nations.
After earning a master's degree in chemistry from the Indian Institute of Technology, he completed a PhD in botany and plant genetics at the University of Oregon.
He was the 2011 recipient of the Infosys Science Federation's Life Sciences Prize.
Though he also spent time in the United States, Siddiqi lived and worked primarily in Hyderabad, India.
He and Nobel Prize winner Barbara McClintock are both known for their work in the fields of botany and genetics.
