Ida Haendel
Violinist
Winner of the Warsaw Conservatory Gold Medal and the first Huberman Prize in 1933.
She became a laureate of the first Henryk Wieniawski Violin Competition when she was seven against many experienced performers.
Her recorded performance of the Sibelius Concerto won a Sibelius medal in 1982.
She was born in East Poland where her father taught her violin when she was three years old.
She is said to have inspired David Garrett.
