One of the only All Black players to exceed 100 matches played, he represented New Zealand in the 1991, 1995, and 1999 World Cups.
He made his North Auckland debut in 1988.
He was given a long suspension 1998 after a stomping incident involving the Hurricanes' Jason O'Halloran.
He fathered three children: Flynn, Mia, and Noah with his wife Janine.
He and Sam Whitelock both played for the All Blacks in World Cup play.
