Hugh Lofting
Children's Author
British children's author who created the their Doctor Dolittle character. Lofting was the 1923 recipient of the prestigious Newbery Medal.
He attended Mount St. Mary's College in Sheffield, England and later studied at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
He served with the Irish Guards during World War I.
He was born to an English-Irish family. His older brother, Hilary, became a novelist.
Eddie Murphy starred in the 1998 film adaptation of Lofting's Doctor Dolittle books.
