Hiroshi Shimizu

Silent film director of the 1948 silent neo-realist film Children of the Beehive and its 1951 sequel Children of the Beehive: What Happened Next. His films often explored the themes of maternal self-sacrifice and the burdens of womanhood.
He studied at Hokkaido Unviersity but did not graduate.
He utilized on-location shooting, non-professional actors, and realistic narratives to create a modern portrait of Japanese life.
He married
The Criterion Collection released a box set of four of his films in 2009. They have also re-released films by director Akira Kurosawa.
