Hipólito Mejía

In the early 2000s, this Dominican Revolutionary Party politician held office as fifty-first President of the Dominican Republic.
After graduating from the Loyola Polytechnic Institute, he completed course work at North Carolina State University and subsequently assumed a high-ranking position with the Dominican National Tobacco Institute.
In the late 1970s, under the presidential administration of Antonio Guzman Fernandez, Mejia became Dominican Minister of Agriculture.
He was born in Gurabo, Santiago Province, to Hipolito de Jesus Mejia Diaz and Maria Josefa Dominguez. He later married Rosa Gomez.
Leonel Fernandez both preceded and succeeded Mejia as President of the Dominican Republic.
